Movements Of The Soul

Art For The Soul

By combining my background as an Art Therapist and Fine Artist with the Movements of the Soul I am finding more ways to go deep in healing and live in Beauty.

About the Windows to the Soul Series...

These works are channeled expressions of the movements of the soul. I channel the images, textures and colors directly as a medium for spirit as seen in the tradition of both aboriginal people and spiritualist trance practices of Brazil. The most important guide for me as both an artist and healer is to bring separation into union. That is the only law I follow and it is the abiding unifying movement of our souls.

This series in specific was used to heal myself during a crisis in my psyche. As a spirit medium I have been utilized by beings and historical events at times without my conscious consent. This occurred suddenly when I moved to Australia to give birth to my son. I was barraged with “memories” that were not my own, of events that took place when Europeans violently took over the aboriginal people which had been joined with the land and dream time for 50,000 years. Aware that I was in a crisis I turned to this series in serious desperation.

“Belonging” was the first painting and was my soul’s response to traumatic ancestral memories involving mothers, babies and birth. In each trial I sought to feel what was essentially unified and what gave life force and strength. What absolves us as human beings. It is a process of seeing the beauty present in a horrific situation. I am consistently surprised by what images and figures show up to be represented, as well as the general movement or tension in a piece. As a rule I have found that if I start a piece with rage it ends in love and that is what people see in it. If it starts with longing there is connection and belonging present. I paint to be reminded of this balance and to attend to the movements of the soul.

Reminiscent of stained glass windows, this style has allowed me to convey controlled symbols (masculine) and story while still remaining loose and available to the kinesthetic and non linear (feminine) movements of the soul. I am consistently surprised by what images and figures show up to be represented. While I paint the images speak to me in words, sentences and messages. Specific symbols, such as snakes, wings, snow, hands and feet, veils, spheres or circles appear to me that are directed either from another person’s soul (as during a commission) or my own. In doing commissions I have learned they also speak with and bestow specific blessings on others and provide sanctuary for healing and meditation.

It is my hope that you are touched in a positive way by them.
